WRMS Cheeleaders successful Community Service Project

The West Ridge Cheerleaders are "wrapping up" their community service project Friday morning and it has been a huge success.  The cheerleaders all week have been collecting and have stuffed 25 full garbage sacks of clothing.  Once again, our West Ridge community and students always rise to the occasion and go above and beyond the call of duty to help others that are in need.  The cheerleaders, sponsored by April Miller and coached by both Stacy Formby and Alyssa Durrrett have collected coats, t-shirts, warm clothes, hats, scarves, gloves, socks and shoes for Mobile Loaves and Fishes.  If you have any warm, gently used clothing to donate, please get them to West Ridge on Friday morning and give to the cheerleaders outside at the student drop off!  It is so important that our students at West Ridge learn the importance of giving back to their community, especially this holiday season.  Thanks again WRMS community for your continued support of our school programs and drives like this one.

MMMM...Brand new comfy cafeteria chairs have arrived!

FINALLY, we have ditched those 25 year old unstable cafeteria chairs that we used for assemblies and parent meetings for brand new scotch-guarded padded cloth chairs in our beautiful West Ridge green!  The funding came out of previous available bond money and hopefully at the next WRMS event you will notice the definite difference!

Don't forget our next Wildcat Club meeting is this Friday morning at 9:00 in our library!

Lastly,  If you have any gently used coats, t-shirts, shoes, socks, or hats please drop them off in at the morning car lane in front of the music wing.  Our West Ridge cheerleaders will be collecting them as part of their community service project all this week.  Your help is greatly appreciated!

Have a great week!

West Ridge main field improvement launched!

If you've peeked through the fencing and have seen the major main track and field renovation lately-it certainly looks very different!  We are well on our way to a new turfed field, new track surface and retaining wall improvements to re-route water off the hill and away from our new field thanks to the recently passed EISD bond package. Thanks to the bond, our EISD Board of Trustees, and Dr. Wellman finally our PE students, athletes, weekend sports programs, and our West Ridge community can play and participate on a field that is level and much softer and safer than the rock hard grass/dirt field.  This is one of the major EISD bond projects that's happening at our school this year along with a new HVAC air system scheduled for this summer, the American with Disabilities Act improvements slated for this school year and beyond and acoustical ceiling improvements in both our gyms.   I'll send you updates throughout the year via this blog----

Waggoner's EEF SmackDown Word

Just wanted to let you all know that WRMS is now a repeat champ in the WRMS Vs. HCMS Eanes Education Foundation SmackDown contest.  The winning margin was WRMS with 36% participation and HCMS with 33% participation.  The best thing about this event is that we all benefit-especially our students- from this SmackDown event.  West Ridge will retain the "Pride of the Hills" Cup for another year and the Hill Country Administrators will all have to wear West Ridge green football jerseys all day tomorrow.  Kathleen Sullivan, Principal at Hill Country is a great sport and I know that she is very proud of the support that her parents and community faithfully give to the Eanes Education Foundation.  Without EEF, we cannot possibly close the gap between adequate and excellent for all the students of Eanes ISD.   Great going West Ridge MS community!!
Go Wildcats!!!  Look for the SmackDown results and photo of the champs in an upcoming issue of the Picayune.

WRMS Bearded Wonder Winner

Mr. Sam Lunz-8th grade Science teacher and boys coach has won the Best Beard at West Ridge contest.  The students voted on their favorite beard and raised approximately $300 by donating their silver change and dollar bills this past week.  Mr. Jason Gray-6th grade special education teacher came in a close second with Mr. Vickers taking third place.  Since Mr. Lunz won the contest, he gets to choose the charity for the total amount raised.  He has chosen Austin Smiles http://www.austinsmiles.org/. Way to go Sam!  Thanks WRMS students and teachers for supporting this fun WRMS event!!  Important life skill-help out those in need!

EEF SmackDown Update

West Ridge is currently ahead by a mere 3% so we still need our great community to contribute by Friday!
